Dehlsen Associates is an innovator in renewable electric power generating technologies using marine currents and wave energy for grid power, along with technologies for ocean-based server modules and desalination for coastal water supply. Jim pioneered wind power advancing turbine technology to become one of the wind industry’s largest in turbine production and in project development. Acquisition of his companies by GE and United Technologies enabled their entry into the wind industry.

Recognition of Jim’s work includes: Power Engineering’s 2013 Top 10 most influential people over the past 25 years; the Lifetime Achievement Award by the American Wind Energy Association; Renewable Energy World Leadership in Technology Award; the Venky Award by University of California, Santa Barbara College of Engineering; cited in Daniel Yergin’s “The Quest”; named U.S. Department of Energy Wind Pioneer; described by The Environmental Hall of Fame as “Father of American Wind Energy”; and the Danish Medal of Honor conferred by His Royal Highness, Prince Henrik of Denmark. Jim is a former Director of the American Wind Energy Association; an advisor to the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Wind Program and has testified at U.S. Senate hearings on global warming and renewable energy. Jim has 29 distinct patents.

Jim received BS and MBA degrees from the University of Southern California. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
